New drop-in service for Swords

A new resource is now availbale to the local community of Swords.  From 10am to 12 noon every Wednesday there is a free information drop-in service available for anyone who wishes to obtain more information about substance misuse.  This new service is availbale at the offic of the RDTF at 7 Forrest Mews (above Eddie Rockets). 

The aim of the new service is to provide free information on all aspects of substance misuse.  Staff from the RDTF will also be available during this time to provide impartial information.

Swords Family Support Group

A new family support group for parents and carers of those affected by drug misuse is now available in Swords.

A family support group is a safe and non-judgemental place where parents, spouses, partners, grandparents, siblings and other family members of those using drugs can come to discuss their problems.  The support group is free of charge and confidential.  It can also help to provide infromation to families on local addiction services.

The group is available every wednesday from 7.30pm - 9.30pm in 7 Forrest Mews, Swords starting from 14th April 2010.

Small Grants Scheme

The North Dublin City & County Regional Drugs Task Force (RDTF) are aware that needs and issues arise from time to time and the Grant Scheme is set up to help Community Groups and Voluntary Organisations develop responses to these needs/issues.

Funding under this scheme will provide once-off grants of up to €5,000 for innovative projects which consistent with the aims/objectives of the RDTF. Funding can provide for capital items where required, trainers costs, room hire, assiociated project costs etc.

 Education Bursary Grant

An Education Bursary has been developed to help those wishing to further their education in addiction studies. A grant is available of up to €2,000 to five individuals residing in the RDTF region with an interest in pursuing a course in addiction studies or related addiction therapies. It aims to upskill people working within a drug related support service and also provides support with the rehabilitation and integration of ex-drug users, following treatment, who wish to pursue an addiction related course. Preference is given to those who has completed treatment for addictions and/or have personal experience of addictions.

Completed applications should be forward to North Dublin City & County Regional Drugs Task Force, 7 Forrest Mews, Swords, Co Dublin.

The Community Awareness of Drugs (CAD) 'Family Focus' programme was a series of six two hour sessions which provided particupants with an opportunity to:

  • Update information on drugs and their effects
  • Explore attitudes, beliefs and decisions related to drug misuse
  • Develop a family -orientated drug prevention strategy
